The level pipe or measuring pipe is a non-essential accessory that ensures that you fill the siphon with the right amount of water and leave enough space for the gas. If you overfill the siphon, there is too little room for the gas, so the pressure will be greater than intended. Legend is that this can cause the siphon to explode, but the worst case I’ve experienced is that the pressure compresses the spring and some soda water unexpectedly escapes through the outlet. Time and soda water left in the siphon for a long time can damage the level pipe into a crumbly state.
There are two different types of siphons, both of which can only fit the appropriate type of level pipe. At a glance, you can tell them apart by the fact that the older type only has a thin plastic ring around it, while the newer one has a thicker rim on top with two slits to allow you to insert the end of the charger holder.
Originally, the level pipe was different depending on the siphon design and capacity, but today there are only two types of level pipes available: old and new. Both are produced by Szász Kft.
The only way to remove the old type level pipe with an extraction tool designed for this purpose.
The level pipe can be pulled out from the new type of siphons with the end of the charger holder.
